Family Sharing
Invite another parent
Manage the same child’s allowances from two devices, with each parent using their own iCloud account.
The inviting parent needs Premium. Accepting an invite is free. Shared editing follows the owning parent’s plan.
Send the invite
- Open Settings > Family Sharing.
On the owning parent’s device, select the child you want to share.
- Choose “Full access”.
This lets the other parent manage eligible children’s allowances. Choose View only instead for someone who should only see balances and history.
- Enter their iCloud email or phone number.
Use the Apple Account they’re signed into on their device. Tap Create invite.
- Share the QR code or invite link.
They can scan the QR code in person or open the invite link on their device. The invitation is intended for the account you entered.
- Have them choose “Set up for a parent or family member”.
Follow the setup prompts and allow iCloud to finish syncing. Choose the parent option rather than locking their device to the child’s view.
- Repeat for each child you want to share.
Sharing is per child. Check that the other parent can see the expected balances and history before adding new transactions.
If both devices use the same iCloud account
Your owned family data syncs through that account. A Family Sharing invitation is for someone using a different iCloud account. Keep both devices online and let syncing finish.
Why can’t the other parent edit?
Check that the invite uses Full access. Both parents should use the latest app, and the owning parent should open AllowanceKit so access status can sync.
When the owner’s Premium ends, their first-created child stays editable and additional children become read-only for both parents. A separate purchase by the invited parent does not override that restriction. Learn more about Premium.
Automatic allowance deposits
The owning parent’s devices process automatic allowances. Opening the invited parent’s app does not process those deposits.
